Better Than Life

by Trevor Morgan, Years Later Music (ASCAP) / Goodwin Trev Music (ASCAP)

My God, how can it be
That you would love someone like me?
Just a sinner in a saint’s disguise
But you’ve opened up my eyes
And now I realize

Your love is better than life
Your love is deeper than the sea
More beautiful than any of the things surrounding me
You are everything I need
More than I desire
Your love is better than life
Your love is better than life

It takes my breath away
To think of the mistakes I’ve made
And know that you have washed me clean
And that you’re still at work in me
Oh, this is why I sing

Your love is better than life
Your love is deeper than the sea
More beautiful than any of the things surrounding me
You are everything I need
More than I desire
Your love is better than life
Your love is better than life

Better than a smile
Better than a kiss
Better than any of the things I think I’ll miss

Your love is better than life
Your love is deeper than the sea
More beautiful than any of the things surrounding me
You are everything I need
More than I desire
Your love is better than life
Your love is better than life

Psalm 63:3
Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.

I actually wrote this chorus in the middle of church (my wife knew something was up because I asked to borrow a pen and I never take notes).

The verses came the next day and ended up being a brutally honest picture of who I am.

This is probably the most “worshipful” song that I’ve written to this point. Not because I picture people all across the country holding hands and singing this on Sunday mornings, but because I feel like it deflects all glory, honor and praise to the One who is truly “better than life.”
